If you are taking nitrates you should not take Levitra as well. The combination of these two drugs can lead to lower blood pressure that could have serious effects on the patient. The serious implications that can be a result of the combination of the two types of drugs can be fainting, dizziness, stroke, or even a heart attack.
There have been a few patients that have suffered a sudden loss of eyesight after ingesting Levitra. The reason for this blood loss is due to a decrease in the amount of blood flow that is moving to the eyes optic nerve. Although it is important to note that Levitra has not been proven to be the cause of such vision loss in patients taking the medication. The sudden loss of vision has most often happened in patients that also suffer from health problems like heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or certain pre-existing eye problems, and also in those who smoke or are over 50 years old.
Before using Levitra it is important to let your physician know if you have the following:
- heart disease or heart rhythm problems
- a recent history of a heart attack, angina (chest pain), or congestive heart failure
- a history of stroke or blood clots
- a personal or family history of "Long QT Syndrome"
- high or low blood pressure
- liver disease
- kidney disease or if you are currently on dialysis
- a blood cell disorder such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia
- a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia
- a stomach ulcer
- retinitis pigmentosa
- an abnormality in the shape of the penis
- if you have been told you should not have sexual intercourse for health reasons
If you suffer from any of these conditions you may not be able to take Levitra or it may be necessary to adjust the dosage of Levitra that you take.
It is important to note that although Levitra is not to be used by women the FDA has discovered that Levitra is not harmful to an unborn baby.
Once again Levitra is not to be used by women, but if by chance it is, it is not known if Levitra can pass to breast milk and this could cause harm to a young baby that is nursing.
If you are over the age of 65 you need to consult a doctor in order to make sure that you are taking the correct dosage of the medication.
