Safety and side effects

Levitra has been proven to be very effective in treating male erectile dysfunction.  The side effects are generally mild and do not have a long lasting effect.  You should not take Levitra for the following reasons:

  • You take any form of medication known as a nitrate, or recreational drugs called "poppers" like amyl nitrate or butyl nitrate. Taking LEVITRA in combination with nitrates may result in serious side effects as the combination of the two drug types can lower blood pressure.
  • Your doctor determines that sexual activity can be a health risk for you
  • You have a known sensitivity or allergy to LEVITRA

It is important that you consult with a physician and have a physical health examination to make sure that your health status will allow you to engage in sexual activity and take Levitra.
The most common side effects form taking Levitra are headaches, flushing, or a stuffy nose.
In some cases Levitra can cause the following:

  •  An erection that lasts more than four hours this condition is known as priapism.  If this occurs get medical help right away. Priapism must be treated as soon as possible or lasting damage can happen to your penis, including the inability to have erections
  • Vision changes, such as seeing a blue tinge to objects or having difficulty telling the difference between the colors blue and green

There are some instances where taking male erectile dysfunction medication can cause a decrease or full loss of vision in one or both eyes.  There is no way to determine if this is an effect that can be directly related to the drug, as there are many factors that could also contribute to this side effect.  If you experience this type of side effect stop taking Levitra immediately and consult a doctor as soon as possible.
Not all of these factors are side effects of taking Levitra.  For more information on the side effects consult your doctor.
Patients taking medications like ritonavir, indinavir, ketoconazole, itraconazole, and erythromycin it is recommended that you use a lower dose of Levitra.
Levitra is not a protection that prevents sexually transmitted diseases.
